London – The inaugural day of London Fashion Week made a vibrant return to the Swinging Sixties with collections from acclaimed Irish designer Paul Costelloe and Turkey’s Bora Aksu.

Paul Costelloe, a stalwart of the London Fashion Week scene, debuted his Spring/Summer collection, “Le ciel est bleu,” which was a charming tribute to the 1960s Mod era. His presentation featured an array of pastel linen dresses, floral silk jacquards, and classic tweeds, showcasing a nostalgic homage to his early career as a design assistant in Paris. Notably, Costelloe introduced his debut hosiery line, incorporating long striped socks paired with stilettos, which he likened to the fashion seen in the popular Netflix series “Emily in Paris,” where the titular character’s avant-garde style has sparked varied reactions.

In close proximity, Bora Aksu’s show unfolded in a sunlit rose garden within a central London churchyard. Models graced the runway in ethereal layers of sheer fabric, showcasing a palette of pastels adorned with floral prints, polka dots, and delicate bows. This collection celebrated the coquette aesthetic with intricate lace details, tailored jackets, and light knitwear, all complemented by cat-eye sunglasses and vintage-inspired hairstyles.

Backstage, Aksu described his designs as a contemporary nod to the 1960s, enhanced with accessories like sunglasses and pearl earrings reminiscent of his late mother’s favorite styles. The designer conveyed that the collection pays tribute to his mother’s independent spirit and her penchant for crafting her own unique garments, blending femininity with strength in the modern coquette look.
